The most fun you can have on 2 wheels (without the wheels).
Having not been on a bike for more than 18 years I was invited to check out the newest activity in Niseko, Timbersled Snowbiking, and what a day it was.
Not to over simplify the technology but the machines are basically regular production 450 cc off road bikes that have been fitted with a ski on the front and a track on the back and you can only imagine the experience that this offers in the snow.
It took a few minutes to adapt to riding a bike on snow and after a few stalls, it was off to the backcountry. The terrain was adapted to suit my ability and I soon realised that with the right amount of dirt bike experience and a few loose screws you can go anywhere and do anything.
I rode the KX Yamaha and KTM and in-spite of being told that much of power is reduced because of the timbersled, they had a crazy amount of power and had no problem handling steep inclines or any terrain that was thrown in front of them.
We were out for a few hours and eventually my lack of bike fitness got the best of me and we headed back to base camp. It is a huge rush of adrenalin and this will no doubt going become the next big thing in snow sports. Watch this space and the new winter 2016/17 packages coming online soon.
